When to come, and what to know

Most first trips split between two bases: Ubud for rice terraces, temples and spas, and the south coast for the sea, whether that is Seminyak and Canggu for dinners and beach clubs, Uluwatu for cliffs and surf, or Sanur and Nusa Dua for calm water. Many visitors buy a visa on arrival or an e-VOA before they fly, and every international visitor pays the Bali tourist levy. The dry season runs from April to October; from November to March the island is green, warm and quieter, with short, heavy afternoon rain.
