Fair Warung Bale

Fair Warung Bale is the social restaurant of the Fair Future Foundation, a Swiss-registered NGO that provides free medical care and clean water projects in Indonesia. Its slogan is that one meal pays for two medical treatments, and the restaurant is a key source of funding for the foundation. The menu is hearty Indonesian and Asian comfort food: chicken satay, nasi goreng, fried fish, vegetable curry with tofu and tempeh, and large sharing platters. Chicken cashew nut and mahi-mahi in garlic butter are the dishes regulars recommend. Prices are above street-warung level but still moderate. The dining room is small, with around ten tables over two floors and a balcony over Jalan Sriwedari, about five minutes' walk from Ubud Palace. Evenings fill quickly, so booking ahead is wise. It suits travellers who want a casual dinner that supports a good cause.
