About This Restaurant

Bumbu Bali Restaurant & Cooking School in Tanjung Benoa is the long-running project of chef and author Heinz von Holzen and his wife Puji, opened after the couple spent years documenting Balinese cooking. The idea was to give visitors a comfortable place to eat real Balinese food. The menu sticks to authentic Balinese dishes and the rijsttafel style of many small plates, and about 95 percent of the food is gluten-free. The cooking school teaches the spice pastes, or bumbu, at the heart of Balinese food, and the same team runs Art Cafe Bumbu Bali nearby. It opens for lunch and dinner daily, and suits travellers wanting a serious introduction to Balinese cuisine near the Nusa Dua resorts.
